Screening Mammography
Screening mammograms are for healthy women with no known breast problems and who do not have a history of breast cancer or breast implants.
Recommendations are that they be done:
- on all women in British Columbia between the ages of 40 and 79 years
- every one or two years
About 1 in 9 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Early detection, before breast cancer has spread, can greatly improve the outcome. Make a screening mammogram part of your regular health routine.
You do not need a referral or a requisition from your doctor to book a screening mammogram – you may call and book your own appointment. Though you don't need a referral from your family doctor, we will need you to give us this information so that we can send your report to him/her.
